Cosplay: Misa Amane from Death Note Walkthrough

Halloween is coming up in a week! So in celebration I’ll be posting cosplay walkthroughs. First up is Misa Amane from the anime Death Note. I’ve worn it twice at AnimeNEXT 2016 and my shinigami is cosplayed by BlackKrystel. Head below to check it out.

I usually make a lot of my cosplays or modify things I buy. This is one of the few cosplays I have done that I bought everything already made and just put the outfit together.

Misa Amane is one of my favorite characters in Death Note because she’s cute, loving, and ultimately crazy. She also fits the Japanese Lolita fashion style I love to do. Since I was doing Misa naturally my best friend BlackKrystel volunteered to be Rem.

I always think its great to start with a reference photo, I chose the one above. Here’s my Amazon Idea List with both things I used and things that can substitute what I used.

With the cosplay I started with a v-neck ribbed cami from Brandy Melville ($17). But you can start with any v-neck camisole, like this one from Forever 21 ($12.90) or this one from Amazon ($13.99)

I chose a black skater skirt from Forever 21 ($7.90) or Amazon ($12.99) to create the look of a Lolita dress I put two black petticoats from Leg Avenue ($15.77) under the skater skirt.

I added an over-bust corset from Amazon ($16.99) to match the reference photo. Then I added more gothic elements such as the lace gloves from Amazon ($10.99), the belt which I borrowed (similar on Amazon for $8.99), and the chokers from Amazon.

The thigh highs and garter belt are also from Amazon ($10). The boots I found at a vintage shop in Manhattan and can’t find similar ones online (If you can PLEASE COMMENT BELOW).

For wardrobe the final touch was my wig which, as most things, was from Amazon. The first round I did the wig I wasn’t to happy with it. The second time around I asked for Kystel’s help and she did an amazing job!

For the book I bought a moleskin from Target (you can get on from Amazon). I found a picture of Misa’s Death Note, I used for reference. I then used a pencil to outline the letters on the moleskin and then I colored it in with a silver permanent marker.

Makeup:

I used the Urban Decay Naked Smoky Palette ($54, but discontinued) to create a smoky with shades ‘Dagger’ and ‘Black Market.’ I used the Kat Von D Tattoo Line in ‘Trooper’ ($20) and for mascara Benefit Roller Lash Mascara ($24). I topped off my eye look with Ardell Demi Wispies ($8.99) false lashes. The ones I used for the second round were the Make Up For Ever N-102 ($18).

Lips I used ColourPop ultra matte liquid lip in the discontinued shade ‘Stiletto,’ but a similar color is ‘Arriba!’ ($6.50). The biggest update to this cosplay were my contacts from Pinky Paradise‘s EOS Dolly Red (use my affiliate code ‘okarinaoftime‘ for a FREE gift with purchase).
